inside job

we work there so we know how to get in at night. our covert operation is to decorate 26 poles around the arts and crafts centre and gallery with funky knitting grrl+dog style. wanna join us? we need knitted, woven, textile etc strips of gorgeousness to tie round the poles. Each piece needs to measure 11.5 inches wide and can be as long as you like (up to about 2 metres). The arts and crafts centre is open to 70+ artists who have learning difficulties and other disabilities. Many are blind or have low vision so the more tactile the better and squeaks and bells etc will go down well too. Durable materials recommended as it rains a lot around here! The centre is open to the public so feel free to 'tag' your artwork with your name / website / message as we hope this will be seen by lots of people visiting the centre over the next 6 months / 1 year. The action starts next week so get your needles clicking !

Oh and by the way - we don't reckon the management are going to arrest us and send us to knitting prison - we think they'll LOVE IT.

woo hoo! Fabulous idea, especially the tactile, sound thing, you guys are going to go wild! Cant wait to see what happens. Was thinking to do the same for "Denroma" the house that Clarrice lives in except for the fact she thinks knitted poles and trees are a "waste of wool". Now... I ask myself..who is the sensible one here?

hi there
I've been collecting used polythene carrier bags and making them into balls of 'plastic' now i know why - I'll get some knitting needles this week and start knitting! when do you want it by? Would love some more info about the centre and what's on. If you've email info I can forward to some people who might join in

G+D - Clarrice obviously hasn't seen the other things I've knitted - the jumpers etc - now they are a waste of wool!!

Rosie - nice to meet you! we are going to start 'decorating' on weds night but will hopefully continue over into the new year and beyond. That's great if you can spread the word. I can't figure out how to get your email from your blog - can u email me? : notmassproduced@hotmail.co.uk and I'll reply with the info. otherwise - just give people a link to my blog and they'll hopefully get the gist.love your art and your blog by the way and as u r local why don't u come and visit the arts and crafts centre? I'm usually there Weds and Fridays in the jewellery workshop.

Wow, synchronicity. I was just going to post about a sister organization here in Oakland (will probably be on Wednesday), and I will link to your site as well as to theirs, with a description of what you are doing. Also I will definitely send you something, it may not be till end of year/January, but as soon as I can get enough practical stuff done. May have to link to grrl as well for samples...

Here via Artsparkers Blog. Love this! I'll be getting busy with the yarn and send something over the pond. Love the idea of adding texture and sound to the piece. Would it make sense work some braille in with bobbles? Let me know where to send - talk2balou[at]gmail[dot]com

Fantastic idea.... I'll definately be getting the knitting needles out again (even though it is warming up over here in Australia).
Great to see Grrl & Dogs guerilla art spreading worldwide!
