skinny knitting

I'm on the lookout for some skinny poles
for these skinny knits
for the global guerilla olympics
organised by
the soon to be beachside
next time I think I'll do things
the right way round and
find the pole first

yummy! couldn't you just wrap them around a fat pole?!

I think they'd look nice on a chain link fence, a wall-mounted flag pole (about the diameter of a broom handle), or a wrought-iron railing! Good luck!

that's a lot of knitting, kate! when i went out measuring poles i was amazed by how big around they were. i had no idea! the pole that i'm making a piece for is holding up a gate, and it's 14" around! xo

I LOVE Knitting! I also noticed that ur doing some stuff with Henshaws. I've had some tactile work in a show there and doing more tactile, participatory type stuff at Hub soon so if there's ever any opps or things to get involved with feel free to give me a shout :)

I can crochet but never learned to knit. Can you recommend any books for beginners?

hi folks - thanks for the comments and ideas.

Rosemoo - yeh dig around all u like - hope u have fun. I'll be over at urs soon doing da same!

Jeanne - I've done the wrapping round a fat pole thing and there must be something wrong with my technique because after a while they all went baggy!!

Anne - i like the flag pole idea - Buckingham palace here i come!!!

Rosie - i know what you mean i can't stop eyeing up poles!

Grrl , As in mobile phone masts?

Lynne - good luck!

Louise - i work at henshaws 2 days a week - which was ur work? I might remember it. Let me know what kind of stuff ur looking for and i'll keep my ear to the ground for u.

Curious - i reckon the best way to learn is to find a nice patient person to teach you - it took me years to get the hang of crochet and i still do it wrong! I'm not sure about books but maybe there's stuff on the web?? This stuff I did is French Knitting - done on a bobbin - dead easy.
