art day

there are some days when you just have t0 put aside 'other things' like tax returns, work, worries and boring chores and just get on with some art. for some people not having enough ideas about what to do is a problem .. for me its having too many ideas, too many things to finish, too many things to start, too many materials, too many techniques, too many ways of working. in situations like these i have to just sit down and get on with it, something, anything. i just pick up some materials that are closest to hand and just start. maybe i'll start sticking or painting or drawing or cutting or sewing or knitting. i did this today because it feels like ages that i've been faffing around doing 'other things' and it feels good just to have spent a couple of hours putting a few layers down. finishing them? ahh now that's another story.

Beautiful. We do have to make art in the middle of things, just get on with it, make it because we love it!

Finished or not? I already like them as they are now.

These are wonderful, I love the colours and patterns they are very calming.

I agree with everything you mention, at the end of the day you just have to give yourself some arty time :-)

Yep - too much and then it gets overwhelming.. just pushing back the stuff on your desk and picking up the closest.. no pressure.

I've just discovered your blog and am tickled by syncronicity. I found myself thinking thoughts along this line myself yesterday--the "some people can't figure out what to do and I have so many things I want to do and I'm just going to carve out time--out of bills, cleaning and all that a weekend sometimes asks for." That moment of hitting the studio--Ahh..

You have inspired me to slide! I will now take action! My optic tentacles are quivering with delight! I have a shoebox that I was about to reuse for the stack of bills, but I think instead I shall punch a hole on one side (to look through..) and put a hole in the lid (to let light in...) and break out the colored paper, glue, tape and pens to fill it with some kind of fall scene, perhaps a Hallowe'en scene will be seen...Yes! I will make a peep box, to commence at the finale of this comment. Thank you for the fire that you have lit under my mantle!
Love, Mrs. Slug

Good on you finding the time to create! looks like you've created some great foundations for your future works. I am really drawn to the black lines especially.

Thankyou for your visits:)

Beautiful work! And, thanks for stopping by for Tea & Honey Bread. Y'know I'm a serial projects starter...I just love the rush of that first creative push...and then it fizzles, but I'm working on it.

I like them...! You´re absolutely right about just starting with what is closest to hand - best way to do it...

Ahh.

you said it.
Psh away the layers of mountains of crap on the art table and just mess about.

I feel the same way - so many directions it's like you are about to burst.

Focus focus focus...

and you's inspired me to put ladders in my sketchbook.

lovely creativity - I know exactly what you mean about putting the worrisome things to the side.

I have to do art often to stay sane :)
